There was
a Simpsons Halloween special on TV tonight.
A lot of the stores here in the UK sell masks, hats, etc, but it's still
not as popular a holiday as it is in the US. ("Bonfire night"
is only 5 days away)
I always remember reading a column in the Miami Herald by Dave Berry
(syndicated hack from a Boston newspaper) about
two elderly aunts from the UK who were visiting family in the US during
October. As this was their first real Halloween, they were thrilled by
the "Trick or Treat" antics of all the little kids.
They were overheard next day, discussing how charming
were all the costumes etc; but one lowered her voice
& confided in the other that she couldn't understand
why all the kids had been calling her
"treacle-tits" !!
